"The True Story of Cinderella"
There's more to Cinderella than glass slippers and a handsome prince.
Chorus Columbia combines the vocal talents of USC faculty and students, along with other local professional singers, to present "The True Story of Cinderella" at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Assembly Street at 3 pm Sunday afternoon, August 23. Not an opera with costumes, sets and acting, this musical will be given "oratorio style," in English.
Warren Martin composed this piece in 1955 for the renowned Westminster Choir College at Princeton. Mark Husey, music director, says it is "like a hybrid of Victor Herbert and Stephen Sondheim." A critical part in the piece is the Narrator, performed by Lois Laverty of the Westminster Choir College. Laverty will coach many of the participants in a master class over the weekend.
The program will be followed by a reception. Admission: $10 for single, $15 for two, $5 for groups of four or more.
