Richland One evening high school to help recent drop- outs
Former Richland One students, who have recently dropped out of school, are encouraged to get their high school diplomas through the Richland One Evening High School.
The Evening High School is not an alternative school. It's a high school with classes held at an alternative time, currently 4 pm - 9 pm Mondays through Thursdays in Building E of the new Sanders Middle School, located on the site of the old Keenan High School at 3455 Pine Belt Road.
"This is a high school that operates at night," said program coordinator Kerry Abel. "It offers more assistance but has the same academic requirements as any of our other high schools."
The Evening High School is not for everyone. The program targets students ages 16- 20 who are in danger of dropping out because of life situations or family responsibilities that make attending school during the day more challenging. It offers students smaller classes, more one- on- one attention, the same high school curriculum, and the opportunity to graduate with a high school diploma. Career counseling and credit recovery for excessive absences and course failures are also provided.
Students or parents who would like to enroll this fall or get more information should contact Kerry Abel at 231-6749 or by email at kabel@richlandone. org .
