Communications office honored for excellence in school PR

Richland One's Office of Communications won four awards through the S.C. Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association's 2009 Rewards for Excellence Program.

SC/NSPRA's Rewards for Excellence Program recognizes outstanding communications and public relations efforts by South Carolina schools, school districts, education agencies, and associations.

The Office of Communications received the following awards:

• Publications and Electronic Media Award for Richland One Connects: A Guide to South Carolina's Capital Schools - Office of Communications Team (Edith Caudle, Mitch Wyatt, Charlton Cain, Karen York, Rachel Phelps, and Katy Watkins)

• Publications and Electronic Media Award for the Volunteer Newsletter - Megan Holt, communications intern, and Katy Watkins, Volunteer and Mentoring Programs coordinator

Prior to the annual awards luncheon, Richland One Communications Director Karen York served as a presenter at a workshop for SC/NSPRA members entitled, "Communicating More With Less." Other presenters were Elaine Baker of York School District Three and Tom Hudson of the S.C. School Improvement Council.
