It's a perilous road we are on
President Obama made many promises during his campaign, but he has already thrown several of them down the drain. He had promised not to raise taxes on non- wealthy people, but now he is talking about the possibility of taxing the health insurance we get from our employers.
Obama also promised to reverse the Bush administration's disregard for civil liberties and the failed foreign policy, but he has done remarkably little to change either problem. Now he has indicated that he wants to have the power to order a person held indefinitely even if there is no evidence they committed a crime. In addition, many troops will remain in Iraq long past when Obama promised that they would come home, and he has escalated the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan.
Millions of people protested the wars Bush got us into. We're still in all of those wars, yet no more protests. Millions protested Bush's policy of detaining suspected terrorists without giving the due process rights. No one protests Obama's policy of detaining suspected terrorists without giving them due process rights
The U.S. Constitution has not changed since the election. Things that Obama said were unconstitutional are still unconstitutional, even if Obama's views have changed.
People who want to reduce the federal deficit and the failed Bush economic policies have no friend in Obama. Those who want to restore civil liberties and a sane foreign policy have no friend in Obama, and they certainly had no friend in Bush or McCain, either.
These voters should have supported Libertarian Bob Barr or the Ron Paul segment of the Republican Party. It is clear that neither Democrats nor mainstream Republicans care about the Constitution or the welfare of the citizens of this nation. Only the libertarian- minded people understand the danger of continuing down the road we are on.
