S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind accepting applications
      The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind continues to accept applications for the fall 2009 semester. Parents are encouraged to apply early to allow adequate time for admissions review. SCSDB is the state's only specialized school for individuals who are deaf, blind, or sensory multidisabled.

Ridge View scores in Nashville
      The 2009 National Leadership Conference for Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) was held in Nashville, Tennessee June 24- 28 at the Opryland Hotel. Fifteen Ridge View students qualified to attend and compete in a wide variety of categories related to the health science field along with 6,300 students and advisors from across the Nation.

      Back- to- school time is an exciting and busy time of year for students and their families. In Richland One, students will grab their school supplies and head back to classes on Monday, August 17.

      The 2009 10th Annual "Children of Hope" Art Exhibit held at The Columbia Museum of Art, located at 1515 Main Street, from August 17- October 18, 2009, displays art work created by children with cancer and blood disorders.

Richland 2 school board rejects charter school
      The Richland 2 school board rejected a year- round, K- 5 charter school recently, despite the state Department of Education's assessment that the proposed Hope Charter School meets the state's rigorous charter school standards.

School day to start at 8 am for high school students
      The school day will begin at 8 am instead of 8:15 am for Richland One high school students this year. The school day will end at 3:15 pm for high schools, the same as last year's dismissal time. School start and dismissal times for elementary and middle school students will remain the same as last year.
