Range manager wins ten gold medals
John McMahan wins ten gold medals at the Florida Police and Fire Games. South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Range Manager John McMahan won ten gold medals during the Florida Police and Fire Games in Port Malabar, Florida. The event was held from June 22- 24, 2009.
The games were first established in 1985 in Tampa, Florida. The purpose of the Florida Police and Fire Games is to build stronger bonds among law enforcement and fire personnel via a sports program that simultaneously enhances positive attitudes towards physical fitness.
The Police and Fire Olympics are held annually and consist of 45 different events ranging from archery to track and field. The events are open to any certified full- time police officer or fireman in the United States.
McMahan competed in last year's event where he won three gold medals in the Shotgun Skeet event. That year he also scored 49 out of 50 in the Singles event, 50 out of 50 in the Doubles Event and earned Highest Overall Award with a final score of 99 out of a 100.
This year's wins included Skeet Single- Gold Medal, Skeet Doubles- Gold Medal, Riot Shotgun Skeet- Bronze Medal, High Overall Skeet Champion- Gold Medal, rap Singles- Gold Medal, Trap Doubles- Gold Medal, Riot Gun Trap- Gold Medal, High Overall Trap Champion- Gold Medal, Sporting Clays- Gold Medal AA Master Class, 5 Stand- Gold Medal AA Master Class, and Three Day High Overall Championship.
Academy Director Hubert Harrell said he is proud to have McMahan as a part of the Academy's training team.
McMahan has been employed with the SC Criminal Justice Academy since 1997.
