Stopping to smell the flowers
      One benefit of creating and maintaining a backyard wildlife habitat is the inhabitants that make themselves right at home. The beds surrounding my deck are filled with shade- loving hostas. Slugs were devouring hosta leaves until a troupe of toads took up residence.

Guided family nature walks get kids interested in outdoors
      The South Carolina Wildlife Federation has teamed up with the City of Columbia Parks & Recreation Department and Sesquicentennial State Park to offer two guided family nature walks this summer, July 25 at the north entrance to Riverfront Park at 7 pm, and August 8 at Harbison State Forest at 10 am.
