Energy saving magazine debuts in July
South Carolina's largest circulation publication becomes bigger in July
when Living in South Carolina
Magazine gets a new name as well as a total redesign and content makeover.
The new name is
South Carolina Living, a variation of a nameplate used for more than five decades, but one that promises a future of communication with the state's largest family of electricity users— electric cooperative members. The magazine is mailed monthly to nearly a half million homes and businesses, reaching more than 1.1 million readers who use power provided by electric cooperatives. South Carolina Living
will provide readers with colorful pages of energy- saving advice and technology as well as issues that affect one of our most important necessities: electric power.
Home Run, a new feature, by Don Strobel, will explain ways to remodel for energy efficiency, while Energy Q&A with energy efficiency expert Jim Dulley will provide advice on wise energy use.
In the Smart Choice column by Becky Billingsley, readers will learn about the latest in high- tech devices that help save time and energy.
Another new section will contain many of the features readers have come to love and some new offerings. Among them, SC Scenes will include visits to towns and cities throughout the Palmetto State.
The culinary creativity of the state's restaurant chefs will be shared in the SC Chef's Choice column by Carrie Hirsch, which will include interviews and the chefs' favorite recipes. Readers' recipe contributions remain as a favorite part of the magazine.
South Carolina Living
continues its celebration of life in the outdoors with gardening how- tos from Bob Polomski and the popular Outdoor Tips Contest. Pat Robertson, a veteran outdoors writer, will share spots along the tourist trails that attract visitors from every state and make tourism South Carolina's biggest industry.
A listing of events from across the state and humorous reflections on modern South Carolina life by Jan Igoe will complete the package.
The publication for electric cooperative members began in November 1950 as Co- op News, a newsprint tabloid, but has been published for many
decades as Living in South
Carolina Magazine. It is published by The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina Inc, the state association of consumer- owned, tax- paying, not- for- profit electric cooperatives.
The magazine's Web site, www.scliving.coop, provides further information about the publication and its sponsoring electric cooperatives.
