Neither team put up much offense through the first two innings. It wasn't until the top of the third that the first runs were scored. After a lead- off fly out, Travis Derrick hit a ball deep to center field over the wall to give Post 193 a 1- 0 lead. The next batter, Zach Haralambis, hit a single. A single by Alex Kirby moved Haralambis to second. Will Keel walked to load the bases for Tyler Martin. Martin singled, scoring Haralambis to give Post 193 a 2- 0 lead. Post 6 responded in the bottom of the third. A lead- off triple by Brett Fulmer put a runner in scoring position immediately. A ground out by Kyle Towles scored Fulmer cutting the deficit to 2- 1. Kurt Stoudenmire then doubled and Ryan Mercer singled giving Post 6 run- ners on base with only one out. A few pitches later, Stoudenmire scored on a wild pitch tieing the score at 2- 2. Post 193 regained the lead in the top of the fourth. A lead- off walk followed by two singles loaded the bases. A fly out by Derrick allowed D.J. Roberts to score from third giving Post 193 a 3- 2 lead.
The score remained 3- 3 until the top of the sixth. A one out single by Michael Huff and a double Derrick put runners into scoring position for Post 193. A fly out by Haralambis allowed Huff to score, breaking the tie. A bunt single by Kirby brought in Derrick to give Post 193 a 5- 3 lead after the top of the sixth. That was the score entering the bottom of the ninth. A lead- off walk of Josh Landry followed by David Houser being hit by a pitch put Post 193 in trouble quickly. Despite a pitching change, the results didn't change. Horn walked loading the bases. Rush Tompkins singled bringing in James Walkup, who was the pinch runner for Landry. Horn was thrown out at second, leaving Post 6 with runners at first and third. A walk by Fulmer loaded the bases again. After a fly out by Towles, Stoudenmire walked, scoring Houser and tieing the game once again. Mercer was the next batter. He was down 1- 2 in the count when Kirby's pitch got away from the catcher allowing Tompkins to run home for the winning run. |
