Don Sandifer picked up the win for Post 4, pitching a complete game giving up four runs and striking out 11 batters. Scott Baldwin started the game for Post 182. He pitched four innings giving up five runs and striking out three batters.
After a quiet first inning from both teams, Post 4 started the scoring off in the top of the second. After a lead off ground out, both Matt Arant and Jamie Stock singled. A ground out by Freddie Martino put Arant and Stock into scoring position. A bizarre play allowed Arant and Stock to score. Tyler Metts struck out, but on strike three catcher Julio Iglesias for Post 182 dropped the ball and Metts took off running to first base. A usual routine throw between the catcher and first baseman went awry when the first baseman failed to make the catch. Metts ended up safe at second, while Arant and Stock put Post 4 up 2- 0.
Post 182 answered in the bottom of the second. Mike Hanzlick singled, giving Post 182 a runner on with one out as Dwayne Addy came to bat. After falling early in the count at no balls and two strikes, Addy drove the next pitch to deep center field for a two run home run to tie the score at 2- 2.
Tony Price of Columbia Northeast Post 182 rounds second base and later scores for his team. Orangeburg Post 4 regained the lead in the top of the third. The bases were loaded for Post 4 when Baldwin walked Arant to bring in Randon Sandifer to break up the tie at 3- 2 in favor of Post 4. After Jamie Stock struck out, Martino singled bringing in Kyle Gallman. The next batter up, Metts, walked allowing Don Sandifer to score to give Post 4 a 5- 2 lead going into the bottom of the third.
Again, Post 182 was able to answer. With runners at second and third with one out, Will Taylor came to the plate. He hit a two run single to close the gap to 5- 4. However, that was as close as Post 182 got.
At the top of the fifth, Orangeburg Post 4 put the game out of reach. A lead off walk followed by a double put runners on second and third and caused Columbia Northeast Post 182 to make a pitching change. However, the pitching change made little difference. The next batter, Martino, hit a single, bringing in Arant and extending the lead to 6- 4. Metts, the next batter, also hit a single scoring Stock and making the score 7- 4. Martino later scored from a Randon Sandifer single to provide the final run of the inning and giving Orangeburg Post 4 with an 8- 4 victory.
