After trailing 4- 0 through the first half of the game, West Columbia Post 79 scored 10 unanswered runs to beat Richland Post 6 10- 6 on Friday June 21. Ryan Burt's pitching helped West Columbia Post 79 get back into the game. After giving up four runs in the first four innings, Burt got six of the next seven batters out.

The scoring started early. After a lead off out, Kyle Towles started the scoring for Richland Post 6. Towles was hit by a pitch, giving Richland Post 6 a runner on base. He stole second and reached third on a wild pitch. After a Ryan Mercer strike out, Raymond Prince brought Towles in with a single. A Corey Young strike out ended the threat for Post 6.

Neither team was able to mount a scoring threat until the top of the third. Towles again was a major factor in the Richland Post 6 scoring. He led off with a walk and then stole second. He later moved to third on another wild pitch by Burt. After another Mercer strike out, Prince again drove Towles in with a single. Richland Post 6 led 2- 0 midway through the third inning.

But Richland Post 6 took advantage of West Columbia Post 79's failed scoring opportunities by padding their lead. Corey Young turned a single into a triple by way of an error. Young later scored on another wild pitch by Burt. David Houser provided another base runner for Richland Post 6. He later scored when Kurt Stoudenmire singled. The run extended Richland Post 6's lead to 4-0.

It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth when West Columbia Post 79 mounted its comeback. Zach Sharpe led off with a single. Zach Hawley's bunt moved Sharpe to second. After a Luke Beasley walk, Todd Joyner belted a shot down the first base line scoring Sharpe and finally putting Post 79 on the board. The hit moved Hawley to third; he later scored when an 0- 1 pitch to Cody Bessinger got behind the catcher. West Columbia Post 79 trailed only by two runs, 4- 2, at the end of five innings.

Post 79 broke the game open and took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Corey Holmes led off with a single. Holmes ended up on third with a pair of singles by Jon Betancourt and Tyler Sturkie. When Houser tried to throw Holmes out at third, the throw hit Holmes on the back and bounced into left field allowing Holmes to score. A single by Luke Beasley and a double by Joyner scored three more runs for Post 79 giving them a 6- 4 lead at the end of six.

It wasn't until the bottom of the eighth that Post 79 put the game out of reach. Tyler Sturkie led off with a single, but advanced to second when the first baseman was unable to come up with the throw. A bunt single by pitcher, Stuart Pound, moved Sturkie to third. Sturkie later scored on a squeeze bunt by Hawley. A single by Joyner brought in Pound, and a two run home run by Bessinger gave Post 79 a 10- 4 lead at the end of the eighth inning.

At the beginning of the ninth inning, it appeared that Post 79 would win by the six run margin, but Post 6 put some drama back into the game. After two strikeouts to open up the inning, Post 6 mounted a small comeback. Towles was hit by a pitch to put a runner on for Post 6. A single by Mercer and Prince being hit by a pitch loaded the bases for Woody Horn. Two wild pitches by Pound cut the score to 10- 6 before Pound could get the final out to win the game for West Columbia Post 79.
