Eight year old helps children go to summer camp
Copeland Ellen Copeland Ellen, daughter of Bill and Jackie Ellen, was strongly influenced by a classmate who told her she lived in a cottage with other children where there were no parents. It sounded like a fairytale to Copeland.
Jackie Ellen, Copeland's mom, said, "We try as parents to shelter our children, but it is also important for them to see the real world." Copeland learned of some of the harsh realities of why children end up in group homes.
Copeland's heart went out to these peers. She decided to do something to make a positive difference. So when she sent out her invitation for her eighth birthday party, it read "Please bring donations of three or four items to help Epworth Children's Home children go to summer camp this year."
On the day of her birthday party all of her guests participated. They came with a great assortment of towels, sunscreen, shampoo, soap, bugspray, and other necessities for summer camp.
"These gifts will enable our children to enjoy the camping experience, bugs and all, even more this summer. We are always grateful when other children reach out to help our children and know what an impact this type of giving make on each child involved," said Epworth president, Rev. John Holler.
Copeland is happy she was able to help other kids have a fun summer. If you are interested in donating to Epworth Children's Home, please contact Laura Bundrick, Development Officer at (803) 256- 7394.Visit their website www.epworthchildrenhome. org.
