Ridge View seniors receive DECA award
     Two Ridge View seniors, Jasmine Austin and Shantavius Hall, have each been awarded the DECA National Marketing Education Honor Award, which recognizes academic excellence, leadership skills, involvement in DECA, and community/school service. Jasmine serves as president of the Ridge View Chapter of DECA, and Shantavius serves as vice president. Richland One student named Gates Millennium Scholar

      Theta Brown, a 2009 graduate of Eau Claire High School, has been named a Gates Millennium Scholar, a highly prestigious award that will pay the entire cost of her college education through graduation including graduate school.

Reeds Jewelers Mother's Day essay contest winner
     Contributed by Killian Elementary Nathan Johnson (right), a Killian Elementary fifth grader, was the winner of the Reeds Jewelers Mother's Day essay contest. Johnson wrote the winning essay entitled, "Why I Love My Mom." Nathan's essay was chosen from among 115 submissions. Everett Black (center), Village at Sandhills Store Manager, presented Nathan's mother, Carol Cruse (left), with a Mother's Day Diamond Pendant. Each participant also received a bookmark voucher.

Killian receives Exemplary Writing award

      Killian Elementary School was one of the ten public schools in South Carolina to win the state's prestigious Exemplary Writing Award. The Exemplary Writing Program is sponsored by the State Department of Education and is based on an extensive evaluation of the schools' instructional programs with a particular emphasis on the teaching of writing.
