Share fair at Columbia Jewish Day School
     (L- r) Itai Almor, Alexander Glickman, and Melchizedek Mashiku, fifth graders at Columbia Jewish Day School, show visitors around at the school's recent Share Fair. Students at the school worked on projects throughout the year, culminating in the Share Fair where they were given the opportunity to showcase their best work. Projects displayed included handmade books, artwork, U.S. and Israeli immigration project, personal flags, science projects, and more.

RNE students put saw to wood and come up with solution for neonatal center
      Sometimes all it takes is being in the right place at the right time. For woodworker David Pietras, the right place is Richland Northeast High School, and the right time is now. Pietras, owner of David Pietras Custom Woodwork, is finishing up his first year as RNE's building construction teacher.

      Two principals and a staff member at the South Carolina Department of Education have been honored for outstanding performance in the School Leadership Institute, a two- year course that brings together principals from across the state to develop and refine their management, communication, and instructional practices.

Local cadet achieves academic excellence
      Cadet James Robert Lewis of Columbia, was recently honored for outstanding academic achievement at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, during the spring semester of the 2008- 2009 academic year. Lewis is seeking a BS in pre- business.

Columbia High grad wins new car in perfect attendance contest
      What could be more perfect than winning a brand- new car just before you graduate from high school? Taylor Patterson finished her senior year at Columbia High School with perfect attendance for the year, which qualified her for a drawing for which one of the top prizes was a 2009 Chevy Cobalt. She was one of three lucky winners.
