Local middle school students place in Mathcounts competition
Mathcounts 2009 team First and second place winners in the individual competition of the State Mathcounts competition held in March at The Citadel in the Mark Clark auditorium, came from Dent Middle School and Irmo Middle.
Taking first place was seventh grader Gregory Rassolov, and the second place winner was eighth grader Samuel Collinsworth. Third place went to eighth grader Morgan Wang of R.C. Edwards Middle School in Clemson, SC. Richard Chen, an eighth grader from Dent Middle School in Columbia, placed fourth.
The 2009 National team coach is Cathy Stinson from Dent Middle School.
The winning school was Dent Middle School. The second was R.C. Edwards Middle School with Irmo Middle School third.
The top four individual winners plus the coach from the winning school team represented South Carolina at the national competition in Orlando, Fla. at Disney World May 7- 10.
