Lady Panthers end Cardinals' championship dreams
      Courtney Angotti- Smith scored three goals to lead the Pinewood Prep Lady Panthers to a 4- 1 victory over the Cardinal Newman Lady Cardinals in the SCISA AAA championship soccer match on Saturday, May 9, held at Porter- Gaud School.

No champions, but plenty of winners
Patience, persistence, and practice pay off for the Hammond Skyhawk softball team.
      On May 4, in its last regular season contest, Hammond School won its first softball game of the year. It was against the Ben Lippen Falcons. For senior third baseman Jenny Priester, who has played for the Skyhawks since eighth grade, it was her first win ever.

Cardinals lose championship to Panthers in overtime
      Brandon Ferro scored two goals as the Pinewood Prep Panthers won their sixth consecutive SCISA AAA soccer championship with a 4- 2 overtime victory over the Cardinal Newman Cardinals on Saturday, May 9 at Porter- Gaud School in Charleston.

Panthers come from behind to eliminate Skyhawks
      The Pinewood Prep Panthers got a goal at Hammond with about a minute left in the match to eliminate the Skyhawks from the SCISA Region 3A playoffs Thursday, May 7. The win advanced the Panthers to the championship match against Cardinal Newman at Porter- Gaud in Charleston Saturday, May 9.

      In early April, the young Brookland- Cayce girls soccer team doubted it would even qualify for the playoffs - let alone earn a first- round home game.

Lewis leads Bearcats over Stall in first round
      The Brookland- Cayce Bearcats cruised by the R.B. Stall Warriors in dominating fashion winning 9- 0 to advance to the second round. Taylor Lewis accounted for four of those goals, three by halftime. The Bearcats out shot R.B. Stall 26- 6, including 16- 0 in the first half.

Defensive Falcons hold off Red Raiders
      When coach Jamie McClendon and his staff were preparing the A.C. Flora boys soccer team to face perennial power Greenville on Tuesday, May 12, the plan was simple. "We wanted to stay organized defensively because we knew they were pretty good on the ball up top," McClendon said. "We wanted to stop their penetration in the middle but didn't want to get unbalanced.

Vikings move to 18- 0 and Upper State championship match
      Spring Valley boys' tennis coach Matt Herms challenged his team after a tight second round match with Dorman last week, and his words were apparently taken to heart. The undefeated Vikings (18- 0) made quick work of Boiling Springs in a quarterfinal match at Spring Valley Tuesday, March 12.

Vikings blast Nation Ford
      The Spring Valley Vikings scored three goals in the second half to run away from the visiting Nation Ford Falcons with a 4- 0 victory in the opening round of the class 4A boys soccer playoffs. The Vikings are looking to make a fourth straight trip to the state finals this year. They won the title in 2007 and will travel to Dorman for a second round matchup May 14.
