After three years of training, research, and hard work, Meadowfield Elementary is now South Carolina's first Paideia Model School.

Paideia (pronounced Puh- DAY- uh) is a rigorous academic program that challenges students' thinking and reasoning skills, encourages them to become problem solvers, and to take ownership of their learning. This com- prehensive approach to education allows students to share their ideas and knowledge orally and in writing across a broad range of subject areas.

On Thursday, April 30, Dr. Terry Roberts, the director of the National Paideia Center, was in Columbia to present Meadowfield with its national certification recognition and banner. At 1:30 pm, all 625 Meadowfield students assembled outside to spell out "Paideia" on the school grounds.

"This is a fantastic national honor for Richland One and Meadowfield," said Principal Paula Stephens. "I would like to thank my wonderful students, parents, faculty and staff for their commitment and hard work."

Meadowfield Elementary is located at 525 Galway Lane. For more information, please contact the Richland One Office of Communications at 231- 7504 or 231-7510.
