Kids, pigs, and a whole lot of fun

Whoo- ee- pig- sewie! Calling all BBQ lovers! It's the 22nd year and "We hear rumbling." Join Carolina Children's Home for its 22nd Annual BBQ Cook- Off Festival at the SC State Fairgrounds, Gate 11 May 15 and 16.

A longtime tradition, Friday night's "Save the Pigs" party is an anything but pork event. For $10 a ticket, enjoy music by the Sensational Epics and taste- test over 40 Southern specialties prepared by cooking teams from across the southeast. Food is served from 7- 10 pm, and beverages are available for purchase.

On Saturday, join the home from 11 am- 3 pm as judges decide on this year's BBQ champions. BBQ plates are $10 at the door and kids 11 and under eat for $5. Winners of the South Carolina Visitor's Center Bake- Off will be announced, with amateur, child, and professional categories. Desserts will sell for $1. Enjoy live music and performances, shop from local vendors, and eat all the BBQ and dessert you can handle, all to benefit the children at Carolina Children's Home.

In operation since 1909, Carolina Children's Home is one of the largest and most comprehensive residential treatment facilities in South Carolina for abused, abandoned and neglected children.

A private non- profit, the home offers five levels of care including counseling and therapeutic services that are centered on the needs of its resident children.

In the last three years the home has served more than 800 children from throughout South Carolina, who were the tragic victims of abuse and neglect, and provided them with a safe, nurturing place in which to live and grow.
