Brookland- Cayce scored three goals in the first half to cruise to a 4- 0 home victory at The Cage against Dreher on April 21. Four different Lady Bearcats found the back of the net in the match giving ninth- ranked BC its eighth win on the season.

 

From the earliest moments of the game, the Lady Bearcats put enormous pressure on the Dreher defense. Sarah Johnson, Pia Von Danwitz, Nellie Phillips, and Kimmy Baston pushed forward and tested the Blue Devil back line time and again. In the 14th minute, a Von Danwitz throw- in sailed directly to the head of Baston who sent it into the goal for an early 1- 0 lead.

As the half progressed, Phillips and Noel McDaniel peppered the Dreher goal with shots. Fittingly, Phillips scored BC's second goal and McDaniel the third as the Lady Bearcats pulled away by late in the first half.

Despite the barrage of shots, the Dreher defense did actually play quite well. Allie Reid and Josephine Fome, in particular, did well to hold their ground and keep the Blue Devils in the game. Keeper Madi Kazadi had several diving saves.

But as the second half started, BC came out firing again. Kalyn Brazell and Haley Powell spearheaded the second half charge and pilloried Dreher's defense. The Blue Devils used a different back line in the second half in an attempt to push Reid and Fome up field in hopes of a goal.

 

In the 49th minute, Dreher's Nikki Fettig saved what looked to be a sure goal by clearing a Kate Busbee corner from the goal line. Just 15 seconds passed before Von Danwitz was able to sneak through the defense and poke the final goal into the left corner of the goal.

Dreher did have several strong chances on goal late in the second half on the strength of Reid and Fome's skilled possession in the BC half of the field. Stringing together passes in a fashion not seen in the first half, Dreher's Ashley Konkle and McKay Sharpe also helped guide the Blue Devils deep into the BC defense several times. But keeper Jennifer Merritt was up to the task and thwarted each attempt.
