Heathwood gives Lady Devils the blues
Heathwood Hall's Logan Ress tries to get the ball from Dreher's Allyson Hill. Despite being outshot 16- 5, the Heathwood Hall Lady Highlanders defeated the visiting Dreher Lady Blue Devils 1- 0 Tuesday, April 14. The Lady Highlanders used a precision passing game to control possession and limited Dreher's quality shots with stingy defense.
Of Dreher's six shots, only one in the 19th minute from Allyson Hill had much of a chance, but Heathwood Hall goalkeeper Lauren McCoy was able to make the save. The other shots sailed wide, over the goal, or were easily collected by McCoy.
The Dreher offense couldn't cash in, but the Dreher defense held the Lady Highlanders to just two first half shots, both of which were easily collected by Lady Blue Devil goalkeeper Madi Kazadi. The score remained tied at 0- 0 after one half of play.
Dreher came out pressing in the second half, but it was Heathwood Hall that broke the tie in the 49th minute. Logan Ress launched a midfield pass from the right side that found Mary Bond Bailey in front of the Dreher goal. She headed the ball over Kazadi into the back of the net to give Heathwood Hall the 1- 0 lead.
A pair of deuces. Dreher's Allie Reid tries to turn as Heathwood Hall's Mary Covington defends. The Lady Blue Devils responded with two quick shots that McCoy saved. Then McKay Sharpe launched a corner kick in the 51st minute for Dreher the side judge said sailed out of bounds before it landed near the back post. Five minutes later, McKay collided with McCoy, and the ball was loose momentarily in front of the Heathwood Hall goal before McCoy was able to collect it.
The Lady Blue Devils were able to rattle off eight more shots to Heathwood's three, but McCoy was able to save five of them and the rest sailed wide.
