Students call for mercury testing
      On Wednesday morning, April 8, in USC's Green Quad between Main Street and Sumter Street on the south side of Blossom Street, more than two dozen USC students protested the lack of mercury testing of people along the Great Pee Dee River through the S.C. Lowcountry, the site of a proposed coal- burning electric power plant.

Governor appoints member to Midlands Technical College Commission
      Randall (Mack) Jackson has been appointed to serve on the Midlands Technical College Commission. The Midlands Technical College Commission is a 12- member board representing the college's service area. Members are appointed by the governor, upon the recommendation of their respective legislative delegations, to serve as trustees for the college.

      April 1 marked the official start of S.C. Safe Digging Month, a statewide initiative aimed at raising awareness of the importance of notifying the Palmetto Utility Protection Service, Inc. (PUPS). Calling 811 before all digging projects can reduce the risk of striking underground utility lines and potentially causing community damage or personal injury.
