      With yellow sunburst blossoms strung along Kelly green cascading stems, Kerria japonica aka the Japanese yellow rose or Easter rose lights up the mid- spring garden. The shrub is a native of temperate Japan and China. Easter refers to its season of bloom in the south.

Northeast Farmers Market returns to Lake Carolina
      The Northeast Farmers Market will return for its sixth year at the Lake Carolina Town Center on Thursday, May 7. The market features fresh fruits and vegetables, free range meats, flowers and plants, baked goods, local honey, certified organic produce, soaps, and potpourri, farm fresh eggs, and more.

Riverbanks to hold annual plant sale
      Riverbanks Botanical Garden's annual plant sale will be held Saturday, April 25, from 9 am to noon at the Garden's Growing Center located at 1201 Seminole Drive in West Columbia. This year Riverbanks will offer more than 60 different varieties and nearly 5,000 plants. Most plants will range from $5 to $10 with all proceeds directly benefiting Riverbanks Zoo and Garden.

Lawn mower exchange at Colonial Life Arena
      Richland County, Lexington County, the City of Columbia, USC, SC DHEC, and Keep the Midlands Beautiful have teamed up to host the third annual Central Midlands Lawn Mower Exchange on Saturday, April 18, 9 am to noon at the Colonial Life Arena Parking Lot (Blossom St).

Garden market at Sparkleberry
      Richland County Master Gardeners will hold their annual Garden Market at the Sparkleberry Country Fair at Sandhills Research and Education Center Saturday, April 25 from 9 am to 5 pm. There will be a wide variety of pass along plants, heirloom vegetables, and herbs as well as trees, flowers, and shrubs.
