Hammond battered rival Heathwood Hall 11- 0 in a mercy- rule shortened game April 7. Kyle Grant pitched brilliantly for the Skyhawks allowing just three base runners and striking out five in his five innings of work.

Raymond Prince started Hammond off strongly with a double down the left field line in the top of the first scoring Les Cotter and Kyle George. Two passed balls allowed Prince to score bringing a 3- 0 score in favor of the visitors almost before most fans had taken their seats. In the bottom half of the first, Grant went one- two- three through the top of the Highlanders batting order.

The Skyhawks added three more in the second when an infield single, two walks, a two- run single by Kyle George, and an error pushed Hunter George, Cotter, and Kyle Towles across the plate.

After working his way through a tough start to the third, Heathwood Hall pitcher Davis Ray earned two outs before an error allowed two runners to score and gave Hammond an 8- 0 lead. The Highlanders did pick up their only hit of the night in the bottom of the third when Chris Barton singled to left after a Derek Kaczmarski walk. But Grant struck out Walker Sojourner to end the threat from the home team.

Grant mowed down the final six Heathwood Hall batters on barely 20 pitches over the fourth and fifth innings, earning the win.

The Skyhawks im- prove to 5- 1 in region play, while Heathwood Hall falls to 5- 2.
