Stopping to smell the flowers
With no formal training in topiary, Pearl Fryar of Bishopville, South Carolina, has been pruning the shrubs and trees in his three- acre yard for three decades. When he moved to Bishopville in 1976, he wanted to win the Yard of the Month award from the local garden club. He obtained plants from the discard pile at the city nursery to landscape his yard.
