      Eleven Richland One schools have earned cash awards for student academic achievement, academic improvement, and closing achievement gaps in 2008. The Palmetto Gold and Palmetto Silver awards program was created by the Education Accountability Act of 1998.

Bridge Creek Elementary holds DARE graduation
     Bridge Creek Elementary held its first fifth grade DARE graduation on March 4. Sheriff Lott came and spoke to the students about the importance of staying away from drugs and violence and focusing more on their education. Also during the ceremony the DARE essay winners were announced from each fifth grade class. They are Jason Pressley, Ms. Floyd's class; Kayla Charles, Ms. Williams' class; Tre' Best, Mrs. Davis' Class; Lauren Silvis, Mrs. Branham's class.

Killian student completes World Leadership Forum
      Killian Elementary School student, Je Nai' Sumpter, completed the 2009 World Leadership Forum: Washington, DC, and helped make the program a success. As a graduate of the forum, Je Nai' has worked to develop self- confidence and leadership skills and gained an important advantage in academics and the college admissions process.

      • DJ McEachern and a friend from Lugoff- Elgin High School were winners in the Katie Fitch "Love for Katie" fight against cancer charity bass fishing tournament on March 7. They were competing against all adults. DJ also got the big fish prize.

AC Flora presents The Sound of Music
      A cast of 50 students from the Music Department will be presenting The Sound of Music on March 26- 29 in the Flora Theater. The evening performances are at 7:30 pm and the Sunday matinee is 3 pm. Advance sales can be made at 240-3139 or with a cast member. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
