      Krisdee Ann Schmale and Charles Cantzon Foster II were married in First Presbyterian Church February 21, 2009. Rev. Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson performed the double ring ceremony. Music was provided by Dr. Ann Wison, pianist; Mary Lee Taylor Kinosian, violinist; Victoria Boyce, soloist; Billy DuBose, bagpiper; and Christian Kloot, drummer.

      Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority has named Judy T. Sturgis the winner of the 2009 Alpha Omega Award of the Carolinas. The award ceremony was held in Hilton Head, S.C. March 14, 2009. Sturgis has been a member of the local Columbia Chapter Preceptor Alpha and a member of Beta Sigma Phi since 1972.

Ariail Chapter of the Columbia College Alumnae Association meets
      Alumnae Hall was the setting for the February 12, 2009, meeting of the Ariail Chapter of the Columbia College Alumnae Association. Hostesses for the occasion were Sue Hammond Hance ('54), Chair Mary Beth Sjoberg ('50), Norma Richardson Johnson ('58), and Nita Milling Montgomery. Chapter members gathered at 10 o'clock for refreshments and fellowship.

Archaeologists to uncover three cannons

      A team of underwater archaeologists from USC will begin work to locate and raise three Confederate cannons each weighing upwards of 15 tons from the silty sediment at the bottom of Mars Bluff on the Pee Dee River. St.Andrews Woman's Club gives to InVest USA

      The St. Andrews Woman's Club presented a community grant to InVest USA and other charities March 16. The money comes from proceeds from the group's 28th annual Bridal Showcase, which was held in January. The presentation was made during an annual banquet at the club's headquarters at 1511 Laurel Street.
