Water tower in Melrose Heights gets makeover
      The water tower on Gladden Street in Melrose Heights was built between 1925 and 1927. It has been the subject of many a dare from children who grew up in the neighborhood over the years. Some even claim they climbed it. Today, however, it is surrounded by a barb wire fence.

We are Olympia prepares for festival
      We are Olympia held a short meeting on Monday March 16. There will be a clean up on Saturday March 21 at the Olympia Cemetery on Gramby Lane beginning at 9 am. The Olympia community will hold a community festival on April 18 in the parking lot next to the Olympia Gramby Mills Apartments from 11 am to 5 pm. The event will be free for children.

Caroline or Change at Workshop Theatre
      Caroline, or Change, the hit musical, will be presented by Workshop Theatre March 20- April 4. The musical tells the story of Caroline Thibodeaux, an African-American maid working for the Gellmans, a liberal Jewish family who resided in Lake Charles, La., in 1963.

      -ART University of South Carolina will host an exhibition of Southern folk- art materials and culture at the McKissick Museum through August 1. 777-2876. The Columbia Design League has extended the "Call for Entries" for its 2nd Annual Runaway Runway: A Recycled Fashion Show through April 9. There is no fee to enter, but a limited number of entries will be accepted.
