Jake Kassel, an eighth grade student at Hand Middle School, has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2009 South Carolina Geographic Bee.

The 2009 South Carolina Geographic Bee will be held at the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia on Friday, April 3, 2009.
