Three Music clubs hold fundraiser
The Afternoon Music Club, Morning Music Club, and Eau Claire Music Club held a luncheon and fashion show Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Forest Lake Club to raise money for young talented musicians. Nola Covington, president of the Afternoon Music Club welcomed the ladies, and Helena Meetze introduced the scholarship winner from last year, Aaron G. Railey who entertained playing the xylaphone and drums. Old Hundred was sung by the group for the invocation.
Jennie Owen of the Morning Music Club introduced the fashion coordinators Miriam Ford and Pat Wilson of Miriam's Fashions of Lexington. As lunch was being served the models walked around the tables modeling the latest spring fashions. Beverly Salley played the piano for the occasion. Modeling were Abbott Carnes, Nola Covington, Helen Daeger, Sara Freeman, Denby Gorman, Jan Harmon, Jane Nesbitt, Judy Nicholson, and Becky Pasel. Chef Gary Smith and his staff prepared a delicious and beautifully presented lunch.
Annie Matthews, president of the Eau Claire Music Club presented three winners with door prizes. The lovely flower arrangements on each table were given to each guest who had a note under her coffee cup saucer.
Betty Knoth, president of the Morning Music Club gave closing remarks. A recital by scholarship winners and a reception will be April 26, 2009, at R. Wright Spears Music/Art Center Concert Hall at Columbia College, 1301 Columbia College Drive at 3 pm.
