Nell Mason Barr Nell Mason Barr Nell Mason Barr was chosen as the Most Honored Woman at the 87th Convention of The Episcopal Church Women of The Diocese of Upper South Carolina February 7, 2009.

Every three years the Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese choose a Most Honored Woman. Each Diocese of the Church honors one woman, and she is invited to the Triennial to be introduced to that gathering. This year, the Triennial, which meets sometimes at the General Convention, is in Anaheim, California July 8- 17, 2009.

Nell Mason Barr was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She married the late John MacReadie Barr, who became an Episcopal priest and was called to be the rector at St. John's Episcopal Church in Columbia as rector in 1961. They had two children: Beverly Barr Moore and The Rev. John M. Barr III. Nell now has five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Nell's devotion to the church and the Episcopal Church Women made her a perfect candidate for the Most Honored Woman. She is the longest serving representative (30 years) to the National Cathedral in the Episcopal Church USC. She created a slide presentation of the Cathedral and traveled extensively to share it with other church groups. Her gift of hospitality has touched many lives as she is responsible for starting a new guild, hosting countless events, teaching Sunday School, and writing a monthly article. She has been involved in the life of St. John's, the Upper Diocese of SC, and hundreds of families.
