Explore champion trees in Congaree National Park
Congaree National Park is offering a "Big Tree Hike" led by Park Ranger Stuart Greeter, Sunday, February 22 at 10 am.
Congaree National Park is known for big trees, and many National and State Champion trees are located in the park. This six mile hike will take visitors to some of the biggest trees of their kind and show how "champion trees" are determined.
The hike will last about five hours and is limited to the first 20 to register.
The hike is free as is admission to the park and parking.
Participants should bring a lunch and something to drink and sturdy boots, and comfortable hiking clothes are highly recommended.
To register for the program, stop by the Harry Hampton Visitor Center at Congaree National Park or call 776-4396 extension 0. Again space is limited and reservations are on a first come basis.
