Artists appreciate Forest Acres City Council

City Administrator Mark Williams, Councilman Shell Suber, Councilman Charles Fetner, Mayor Frank Brunson, Mayor Pro Tempore Curtis Rye, Councilwoman Ginger Dukes, and City Attorney Lee Holloway were all present.

Mayor's issues

• Citadel and Idalia Parks are being looked at for sprucing up involving fence upgrades, parking upgrades, and playground upgrades. The projected cost is in the vicinity of $300,000.

• There was no new news on the City Clock project.

• On the matter of dead trees at 128 Ila Lane, City Administrator Williams said there are some monetary concerns with removing the trees. The property owner has not responded to the city's attempts to arrive at a suitable resolution for the problem. Williams will follow up.

New business

• The State Museum reported that their Leonardo DaVinci exhibit was very successful and pamphlets were handed out with coupons to Forest Acres restaurants.

• The Trenholm Artist Guild and the Cultural Council of Lexington and Richland Counties presented Council a painting by Karen Jamrose in thanks for their support.

• Beth Baldauf was appointed to a new term on the Municipal Election Commission.

• Kristy Hatem was appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

• $34,050 in Hospitality Tax Funds was granted for the Forest Acres Classic.

• Jordan Anderson received $50,000 sponsorship from the City.

• Unanimous first reading approval was given to an ordinance to extend a commercial district. Old business

• Unanimous second reading approval was given to the rezoning of 4502 Forest Drive from C-1 to C-3.

• Unanimous second reading approval was given to the annexation of 3613 Carriage House Road.

• Unanimous second readin approval was given to an ordinance to prohibit digital and mobile billboards in the city of Forest Acres.

City Administrator's Report

• Cardboard recycling continues on a trial basis.

• The city attorney is to investigate options for adding a clause regarding removal of dead trees to the nuisance ordinance.

• 2009 comprehensive plan awaits approval.

• Council agreed to waive fees for work on a Boy Scout Hut at Bethel Church. Permits must still be applied for.

• Multi- Bank Securities Inc. was suggested for management of city funds.

• Edens & Avant has agreed to help with Gills Creek walking trail. The City is preparing to apply for a Transportation Enhancement Grant.

• It was recommended that the City post usage times at each of the city parks.

Police chief 's report

• Chief Sealy reports that approximately six road races are scheduled to be held within the City of Forest Acres and requested that the City reexamine a fee schedule to help cover the cost of streets closings and police officers.

Community forum

• Carol Kososki thanked Council for the massive improvements to Quinine Hill Park.

• Council was commended for agreeing to waive the fees of the scout hut.

Council items

• Char les Fetner commended the police for their handling of the bank shooting.

• Councilwoman Ginger Dukes congratulated Cardinal Newman for their fine performance at the state wrestling championships.

Council meets again Tuesday, March 10 at 5:15.
