Senior Jake Motto scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on Senior Night as the Cardinal Newman Cardinals defeated the Hammond Skyhawks 62- 49 on Tuesday, February 10.

Motto scored the first six points of the game for the Cardinals (17- 5, 8- 1), and senior Edward Dannelly scored nine points in the first quarter to give Cardinal Newman a 19- 10 lead. Hammond (10- 13, 3- 6) could not find an offensive rhythm in the first half, and the Cardinals extended their lead to 13 points at halftime.

Cardinal Newman came out after halftime and widened its lead to 18 points. Twelve different players scored for the Cardinals, who had 19 assists on their 24 baskets.

The win clinched the SCISA Region I- AAA championship for Cardinal Newman.

Dannelly finished with 12 points, and Twan Alewine chipped in seven points and five assists for the Cardinals. A. D. Briggs and Aaron Walters paced the Skyhawks with nine points apiece.
