Renovation of the Three Oaks Apartment Complex

Hyatt Park Community
By Josh Cruse

The Hyatt Park Community met February 3, 2009. Among the issues discussed was a project to renovate the Three Oaks Apartment Complex.

Kevin Connelly said he has a contract and has financing to construct a renovating project on the Three Oaks Apartment Complex. His proposition, which will be brought in front of city council on February 18, is to restore the apartments and provide better security to the complex. He is proposing to build a new meeting space, complete with computers for after school access, and a new laundry facility. Connelly also spoke on his plans to install a new security system that could monitor anywhere on the complex via a security connection through the internet. This link would be accessible to the authorities and any other person that would need access. Along with the cameras, the management will also provide direct cooperation with other crime prevention including crime watch. They will have a zero tolerance policy for prospective tenants who pose a threat to the security of the residents in the complex.

The units in the complex will be updated. On the list are putting in new floors, the interior will be repainted, and the kitchen will have new cabinets, double sin, and a stove with an exhaust fan.

Under the new ownership, the person renting will be responsible for anyone who lives in the apartment. There will be a 24 hour notice for any inspection that will be done to a unit.

Lyman Munson spoke on behalf of the opposition to the Connelly's proposition. One of his main concerns was the lack of parking. Density is an issue, which Munson said the new owner can not fix. The opposition wants to stop the plan and proposes to build affordable single family housing.

The issue of zoning relief, which Connelly believes will help with the issues of density and parking, will be brought up at the city council meeting on February 18 as well.

The next Hyatt Park meeting will be March 3.
