Heathwood Hall wins state math meet for second straight year
For the second year in a row, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School has won the State Math Meet, organized by the South Carolina Independent School Association. Heathwood Hall placed first against 40 other teams in the individual and team categories. For the second year in a row, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School's math team has won first place in two categories of the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) Math Meet. Competing in Division I against 40 other teams, the Highlanders brought home first place wins in the individual and team categories.
In 2008, Heathwood Hall won the individual competition and tied for first place at the same meet.
Heathwood Hall senior Jeghang Wee again won the individual competition. Other first- place team members included Sara Hunter, Skyler Hutto, Pierce Jones and Caroline Plowden. A second team from Heathwood Hall placed sixth overall in the team and individual categories. Heathwood Hall Upper School math teachers Gwen Bunch and Rip Blackstone served as team sponsors.
Competition divisions are determined by school enrollment, and Division I is comprised of those institutions with 99 or more high school students.
SCISA Executive Director Larry Watt on Monday morning traveled to Columbia to congratulate the students and present their trophies.
