Columbia youth becomes 2009 ambassador

By John Dixon

William and Will Rambo William and Will Rambo Legislators were introduced to the 2009 South Carolina Speech Language Hearing Association (SCSHA) ambassador Will Rambo and his family at a breakfast hosted by SCSHA for S.C. legislators. Will was nominated by his therapists from the EC Singleton Rite Care Center in Columbia where he has received services in both group and individual settings. His mother, Lee, first recognized a problem when Will was 17 months old and still not talking. At that time Will was evaluated and after several months began therapy for increase of vocabulary, syllable structure, and phonetic inventory.

While waiting for a slot to become available at the Rite Care Center, Will received services from Sarah Burnette, a speech- language pathologist and family friend. At the Rite Care Center he received service from Katie Cate, Caison Boozer, and Kelly Delage and one graduate clinician, Julie Weber.

Will rarely missed a therapy session, his homework was almost always complete, and he had phenomenal family support. Small wonder then that the child who once only said "Eeesh" can now tell you about anything you have time to hear. According to the therapists who serve him "Will Rambo is no longer the "Eeesh Kid," but a functional, active, communicative four year old boy."
