      Funeral service for Hammond Eugene (Gene) Edwards Jr. will be held at 3 pm Friday, January 23, 2009, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6- 8 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Edwards celebrated his 77th birthday on January 4, 2009. He was the son of the late Hammond E. Edwards Sr., formerly of Saluda, S.C.

Petal Pushers hold January meeting

      The Petal Pushers Garden Club held the January meeting at the Governor's Mansion. After a tour of the mansion, the business meeting was held in the Caldwell- Boyleston House. Margaret Glemm served delicious refreshments including her famous pimento cheese.

      Lake Carolina Elementary (LCE) School has chosen Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services (PAALS) as one of their service learning projects for 2009. As part of their Dog Days of January celebration, LCE will host a dog walk January 24 at the school from 10 am- 12 pm at 1151 Kelly Mill Rd. in Blythewood, SC. Registration is $15.

Explorers hike the Palmetto Trail
