The Musicians and Songwriters Guild of South Carolina (MSG of SC) recently began its latest project to procure unwanted or out of shape stringed instruments, clean and repair them, and donate them to children.

Vicki Whitehead, MSG of SC president, says the program is designed to make sure deserving future musicians are able to develop their talent and interest regardless of their financial situation.

All recipients are screened to verify need and interest, and any donated instruments beyond repair will be turned into art by local artist Justin Roberts. Profit from the sales will be plowed back into the program.

The Guild is a registered 501

3) C organization; therefore, any donations are tax deductible.

Anyone interested in helping may visit www.scsongwriters.com or email vicki.whitehead@sun-inc. com.

Other events include partnering with the Midlands Interfaith Homelessness Action Council in a February 3rd event called Come Together.

Guild members Danielle Howle and Lucas War Hero will be performing at 7:30 pm at the 701 Center for Contemporary Art at 701 Whaley. The concert will also feature the Sandlapper Singers.

Rock out for the Kids is a monthly 20- 30 minute concert at the Palmetto Children's Hospital atrium. Anyone interested in performing, contact Brent McDonald, brent@brentmcdonaldmusic.com or 803-479-1718.

The official radion station of MSG is www.weareradio.com. The idea is to promote music from the Palmetto State.

MSG of SC meets each month at 7:30 pm on the second Monday. Anyone interested in singing or writing songs is encouraged to join. The groups meets at 123 Library Hill Road, Suite C, in Lexington. Library Hill Road is between Fatz and the county Library on Highway 1.
