Compiled by Mimi M. Maddock

Audiences will think they have stepped back in time when they hear the tunes of yesteryear from the 50s and 60s. Heart 'n Soul offers its audiences a toe tapping, hand clapping, and shag dancing good time.

Musicians in the band Heart 'n Soul have played with the best; now they are bringing their best to Columbians. Several of the members are listed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Macon, Ga. Some have backed up legends such as Aretha Franklin, Billy Stewart, The Temptations, Chicago, and Stevie Wonder. Within the group, the members have played and sung with over 25 bands. All have had careers ranging from CPAs to park ranger, but they have continued their love of 50s and 60s music by performing with various bands over the years.

"I don't know who has more fun, the audience or us," said Malcolm Gordon, vocalist and harmonica player and dentist during the day. "We have a blast playing this music and performing."

Carl Ellsworth Lead vocalist Attorney
Doug Neal, drummer, and leader of the group said, "We got our name from the idea of giving of our time and talents from the heart, and we've definitely got soul."

Heart 'n Soul is unique because it is a nonprofit organization dedicated to playing 50s and 60s rhythm and blues for charity. The members schedule a limited number of events each year and consider each opportunity on an individual basis.

Performances start at $1,200 and up, plus sound equipment fee. To schedule a performance for your organization, contact Doug Neal, 803- 787-7071 or heartnsoul@bellsouth. net or Marion Brown, 803-364-5193 or marionb5193@ bellsouth.net.
