The Heathwood Hall Highlanders fell behind 14- 3 in the first period to the visiting Wilson Hall Barons, but came back to win 61- 57 in a hard fought battle Tuesday, January 6.

Joseph James gave Heathwood Hall a 3- 0 lead to start the game, but rattled off 14 straight and led 17- 11 at the end of the first period of play. All five starters scored for the Barons and Josh Glenn came off the bench to add a three pointer.

The Highlanders started the second period with a 19- 12 run and took the lead 30- 29 on Mac Whalen's lay up with 3:21 to play in the second half. The Barons grabbed the lead back 90 seconds later after George James's jumper put them up 33- 32. They closed the half on a 6- 2 run.

James's lay up early in the third period gave the Barons a seven point lead, but after Corey Littlejohn followed his own blocked shot with a soft bank shot, the Highlanders closed the gap to 52- 49 at the end of three.

Littlejohn's rebound and lay up and William Middleton's free throw tied the game at 52- 52 with 5:35 remaining in the game. Littlejohn struck again with a drive down the middle of the Baron defense to give the Highlanders a two- point advantage.

The Barons fought back. Glenn steal and subsequent lay up earned Wilson Hall a 57- 56 lead with 1:15 to play. Again, Littlejohn responded for Heathwood Hall with a nifty one- handed scoop shot in the lane that put the Highlanders back up by one with a minute to play.

After a missed Wilson Hall three- point attempt, the Barons were forced to foul, but they had to foul three times to get into the bonus. By the time Mac Whalen got to the free throw line there were only 22 seconds remaining.

Whalen missed the front end of the one- and- one, but came up with a loose ball on the rebound and as he was falling out of bounds found Littlejohn underneath the basket for an easy two. Morgan Whalen added a free throw to ice the game.

Littlejohn scored a game- high 22 points for the Highlanders, 14 of which came in the second half. Mac Whalen and Joseph James each finished with 12 and Morgan Whalen added ten.
