Griffins get Dreher in double overtime

On Tuesday Night, January 6, Fairfield Central defeated the Dreher Blue Devils 90- 84 in double overtime. In a tight game, it was Anthony Craig who came up huge for Fairfield Central as the Griffins pulled out the big win. Dreher was led by Quayshun Hawkins who had 22 points, including two three- pointers in the first overtime to force the second overtime.

The Blue Devils started out with the early lead at 5- 2, with all five points coming from Aaron Johnson. With points from Johnson and James Whitehead, the Blue Devils built a five point lead at 14- 11 at the end of the first quarter.

Dreher increased the lead to five at 16- 11, before the Griffins mounted a comeback. With contributions from Marquise Robinson and Mikell Trapp, the Griffins scored 16 of the next 20 points to take a 27- 20 lead. The Griffins extended their advantage to 11 at 34- 23, but the Blue Devils were led by Dominic Boyd to help cut the lead to 36- 29 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Blue Devils scored nine straight points to tie the game at 38- 38. However, the Griffins regained the lead and held onto a 51- 49 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Anthony Craig carried Fairfield Central in the fourth quarter, scoring nine of the first eleven points for the Griffins.

Fairfield Central held a 62- 58 in the final minutes, before Nathaniel and Johnson helped the Blue Devils tie the game at the end of regulation.

Dreher captured the early lead in the first overtime with points from Nathaniel and Hawkins, but Fairfield Central took the lead at 73- 69 in the closing seconds. A three pointer from Hawkins with 12.6 seconds left and then another from Hawkins as the final buzzer sounded sent the game into a second overtime with the score 75- 75.

Marquise Robinson and Anthony Craig helped Fairfield Central build a seven point lead at 84- 77. Despite a comeback by the Blue Devils to cut the score to 85- 84, with points from Dominic Boyd and James Whitehead, Fairfield Central proved to be too much. Dominique Weldon and Mikell Trapp each hit key free throws to seal the 90- 84 win for the Griffins.
