Animal Protection League named 2008 Angel
Donors can be confident that the Animal Protection League is a good steward of their financial gifts. Because 93.5 percent of all collected revenue goes directly into programs that support the APL mission, Secretary of State Mark Hammond declared the organization to be a 2008 Angel, one of only ten non- profit organizations statewide recognized as such for exemplary fiscal responsibility.
Angels are chosen after a careful review of the financial reports that all charitable organizations must submit annually to the Secretary of State's Office. In addition to being good stewards of their monetary donations, Angels must have been in existence for at least three years and must have revenue greater than $20,000, 80 percent or more of which must go toward the charities' program goals. Angels must also make good use of volunteer labor and receive minimal funding in grants.
APL board member Christine Brouwer noted that this honor is not only for the board members and the shelter staff but also for the many faithful donors and hard- working volunteers. Their financial gifts, the countless hours they devote to fundraising efforts, and the care they provide our animals enable the APL to make a significant difference in the lives of abandoned and abused
