Mabel Williams turns 106 today, Friday, October 17. Her friends, family, and community have been commenmorating the special event for several weeks. She was presented a commemorative blanket by her home church congregation and Pastor Nichols of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Pomaria, S.C. last Sunday. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott and his daughter visited her nursing home to bring her best wishes. Ms. Mabel has slowed down a little this year but previously attended several churches a week in the Lower Richland area.
She married Lester Horace Shealy at age 17 and they were married for 53 years. After he died, she married James Williams.
Mrs. Williams attributes her longevity to her positive attitude, church involvement, and especially to her wonderful, loving family. She is the mother of four children, three of whom are deceased. She has eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. Her daughter Martha and son- in- law James Amick give her assistance when she needs it.
