Ridge View High School news •Ridge View introduced the first Summer Reading Celebration on September 17. Most of the Ridge View students were present and participated. •Principal Dr. Marty Martin has been selected for the South Carolina Dance Association's Advocacy Award for 2008- 2009. Dr. Martin will be presented with his award on November 15. •RVHS's Art Department received a $20,000 Distinguished Arts Program Grant provided by the State Department of Education. •RVHS students, Ariel Bledsoe, Samuel McCants, Zoe Trock, and Sheneka White have been named 2009 National Merit Program Commended students. •RVHS's faculty and staff have achieved the highest attendance record among students during the 2007- 2008 school year. Dr. Hefner acknowledged this accomplishment with a Superintendent's Award Breakfast Tuesday, October, 7, for the faculty and staff . •Teacher Kurt Stiglbauer has been chosen as one of 45 people in the country to be invited to an all expense paid "Understanding Liberty and Choice" economics conference in Denver, Colorado in December. Teacher Regis Goode has been invited to present at the National Science Teachers Association regional conference in Charlotte in October. •The Blazer Band was named Grand Champions at the Spring Valley Festival of Bands. The band also received a Superior Rating, Best Music Performance, Best Visual Performance, Best General Effect, Best Percussion, and 3rd in Color Guard. •Fall administration of the HSAP will be held October 21- 23 at school. This administration is for any student in the third year of high school who has not yet had an opportunity to test or who has been unsuccessful on the ELA and/or Math section in the past. Anyone interested in volunteering may contact Mary Harmon at mharmon@ rvh.richland2.org. •The Adult Education Program of Richland School District 2 is enrolling for the 2008- 09 school year. Registration is required for all classes for individuals 17 years of age and older. Courses being offered at the center are GED preparation, HSAP remediation, WorkKeys, Skill Lab, and Introduction to Computers I & II. All classes meet at the Rogers Center, 750 Old Clemson Road. They are in the market for a used trailer (18 wheeler type) that is in good condition at a great price. If anyone has a lead, please contact Mr. Clayton at vclayton@ rvh.richland2.org. •On November 4, Richland Two will ask voters if it can borrow $306 million to build four elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and one magnet center. Additionally, some existing facilities will be renovated and upgraded. The 2008 Bond Referendum would cost property owners of a $100,00 house, $108 per year or 30 cents per day.
