Local businesses find opportunity through Women's Business Center

Pam McPeak, interior designer and owner of Southern Places Inc., has been featured in several magazines throughout South Carolina.

As a client of South Carolina Community Enterprise and Women's Business Center (SCC & WBC, www.scwbc.org), McPeak took advantage of the marketing and technological services offered by SCCE & WBC to grow and expand her business. McPeak stated, "The Center has helped me find incredible, cost- effective, resources while also making me focus on my business' strategic growth. They helped me to upgrade the computer technology I used and coached me on how to use it."

Another client of SCCE & WBC, Worth Repeating of West Columbia, celebrates its one year anniversary on October 1. After serving as the executive director for the Palmetto Center for Women and 20 years previous experience in non- profit management, Joy Campbell began her new business venture. She attended the

Start a Business class. "I worked with Bill Littlejohn to develop the feasibility of a consignment store and business plan after the class. The class helped me to recognize that I had the skills to be a small business owner."

Both businesses believe that supporting community services is important. In addition to serving on boards, they give back from their business endeavors. McPeak is currently donating her design expertise to the South Carolina Community Enterprise & Women's Business Center with the renovation of its space at 1225 Laurel Street. Campbell has committed 10% of all sales on October 2, 3, and 4 to the HomeWorks Fall Blitz. She's also coordinating donation of supplies and gathering volunteers for the Blitz on October 11. In the future she plans to support other local charities.
