Heathwood Hall's Mac Whalen burst through a hole created by offensive linemen Belton Amaker (l) and Tyler Rogers.

The bagpipes played as the battle raged between the Highlanders of Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and the Indians of Orangeburg Preparatory School.

With bagpiper Glen Adams of Palmetto Pipes and Drums playing in the distance and in the stands, the Highlanders held on to win 42- 37 against the tough Indian team.

The two teams racked up almost 800 yards of total offense between them. Heathwood opened the scoring with a long touchdown pass from junior quarterback Mac Whalen to senior wide receiver Davis Ray. Ray continued the scoring on defense, picking off an Orangeburg Prep pass and returning it for a touchdown.

Orangeburg Prep tried to answer in the second with two quick scores of their own, but Heathwood immediately answered back.

Whalen threw for 299 yards with a 70% completion rate going 21 of 30 with two touchdowns. Whalen also rushed 14 times for 85 yards and two more touchdowns. Ten of Whalen's completions went to Morgan Whalen, for 138 yards and one touch- down. Ray added five catches for 102 yards and a touchdown of his own. Ray also had two interceptions and was the only player to score both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

Heathwood Linebacker Redding Kingery recorded ten tackles including eight solos. He also caused a fumble and was credited with recovering one. He is currently number two on the team in tackles and tied for second in interceptions behind Ray.

The Highlanders are now 2- 1 with their eyes on region foe Ben Lippen who comes to Heathwood Hall Friday, September 19.
