At completion, a small group of skilled crafters wanted to continue to meet. Joy Sovde, the instructor, suggested making afghans for Victory Junction Camp in North Carolina, where kids aged seven- 15 with chronic conditions or serious illnesses can have a free, fun camping experience in a medically monitored setting. Each child leaves camp with an afghan and teddy bear.

Joy Sovde, spokesperson for the crafters, says, "The talent and generosity of these women is quite amazing. The afghans were produced over a year's time as the main project for our Guild. It's most gratifying, because this NASCAR- supported camp has directly benefited a close family member. When the crafters heard about it, they decided to honor this organization."

Thirty afghans have just been delivered to the camp thanks to the efforts of Columbia residents and Capital Senior Center members Daisy Block, Sandy Simmons, Katie Williams, Pauline Trumble, Nikki Long, Rachel Rodriguez, and Joy Sovde.
