Photo by Paulene Fiesta Brookland- Cayce's Jake Benton leans in for a shot against a Chapin's On Tuesday, December 16, the Brookland- Cayce men's basketball team defeated the Chapin Eagles 61- 40. Four players for Brookland- Cayce finished with double digit point totals, including Jake Benton and Vince Odom who led the team with 15 points and 13 points respectively.

The Bearcats came out hot in the first quarter, jumping out to an early 13- 7 lead. Jonathan Rumph led the way with five points, while Benton and Odom each contributed two points each. The Eagles fought to keep the game close, keeping the deficit at single digits as the quarter ended. Brookland- Cayce held a 17- 8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, John Coughlin carried the brunt of the Brookland - Cayce scoring with five points. Benton put in four points as Brookland- Cayce maintained a solid 11 point lead. The Bearcats led at halftime 28- 17.

The third quarter was a tale of two halves. The first half of the quarter the Bearcats came out hot. They hit the first five shots to open up a 39- 17 lead. The Bearcats were led by Odom and O'Neal Jones with four points each to extend their lead. However, Chapin turned up the defense and began chipping away at the Brookland- Cayce lead. The Eagles outscored the Bearcats 13- 2 to finish out the quarter, with the only Brookland- Cayce points coming from a pair of Benton free throws. The third quarter ended with the Bearcats holding onto a 41- 32 lead.

The Bearcats put the game away in the fourth quarter. Brookland- Cayce was led in scoring from Benton and Odom with five and three points respectively. Four big points from Jones and two from Benton helped the Bearcats establish a 60- 37 lead and allowed them to put in the backups to finish the game.
