Girls
File Photo Elizabeth Hodges With several returning players, including All- Region performer Elizabeth Hodges, Ben Lippen has high expectations for the 2008- 2009 season. The Falcons will also rely on contributions from younger players for hopes of a successful year.
Hodges, All- Region last season, returns as a junior along with three- year starter Mani Keita as the leaders of the team. Having been instrumental in successful summer activities, these ladies serve as examples of good attitudes and work ethics. Also returning is Melissa Pascutti. The Falcons will look inside to juniors Sarah Yaekel and Allison Amick, both promoted from junior varsity.
Sophomores Anna Beth Cook, Melissa Mangum, and Rachel Venugopal as well as freshmen Hannah Austin, Emma Cummings, and Patricia Pascutti will all make an impact providing depth for the Falcons this season.
Coach Cindy Cummings has had her team work hard on conditioning in early practices to prepare the younger players for important roles as well as to help solidify the pressure defense the Falcons will run. With excellent quickness, Ben Lippen will use that pressure defense to hound their opponents.
Coach Cummings and the Falcons will use a team retreat later in December to help relationships necessary to have a successful season. While there is considerable talent on the Falcon roster, many of the players are young and inexperienced. As the season begins and opportunities to improve and learn arise, the team will need to rely on one another.
The nice balance between experienced players and exciting youngsters will give Ben Lippen an edge this season. With a strong region finish and state playoffs in mind, the Falcons will be a fun team to watch in 2008- 2009.
