The Hammond School Red Cross Club handed out 80 American Red Cross blankets to the homeless at the Oliver Gospel Mission on Taylor Street in Columbia on Wednesday, November 26, in conjunction with the mission's annual Great Thanksgiving Banquet.

To pay for the blankets, the Red Cross Club at Hammond School collected money during home football games this season.

Libby Anne Inabinet, a member of the 2009 Liberty Fellowship class, approached Hammond School about starting a Red Cross Club as her Lib- erty Fellowship project.

"I am so proud of Hammond School and Kaki Smith, the club president, for initiating a Red Cross Club. I am impressed with their leadership in raising funds to support those in our community who are less fortunate," said Inabinet, chief development officer with the American Red Cross of Central South Carolina. "As a Liberty Fellow, we are expected to develop a project that will move South Carolina forward. Hammond School students are role models for other students not only in the Midlands but across our state and country."
